The 'Home' window

The 'Home' window provides access to your YouTube account, the standard categories 'Most recent' and 'Most viewed', and the 'Search' feature. The menu provides access to the 'Settings', 'Manage Accounts' and 'About' dialogs.

The 'My Account' window (requires a YouTube account)

The 'My Account' window provides access your existing YouTube uploads, favourites, playlists and subscriptions. If you have more than one registered YouTube account, you can switch between them by clicking the 'Switch accounts' menu option.

Searching for YouTube videos

The 'Search' dialog can be accessed in two ways:

• Clicking the 'Search' button from the 'Home' window.

• Typing with the hardware keyboard when in 'Home' or 'My Account' windows.

The 'Search' dialog provides three ways of finding YouTube videos:

• Type a search query into the text area.

• Select one of your recent searches via the 'Recent searches' button.

• Paste a video URL into the text area. This option will take you directly to the 'Video Info' window for the video.

Search results can be ordered by date published, view count, relevance or rating.

If you type a search query of select a recent search, the search will brought to the top of your recent searches list.

Filtering results

You can filter lists by typing using the hardware keyboard. The filter is applied to both the title and author, where applicable. In addition to videos, you can also filter your playlists and subscriptions.

Obtaining more results

cuteTube intitally displays upto 25 results in the video list view, but more results can easily be obtained by clicking the '+' button, which appears (if applicable) when you scroll to the end of the currently displayed results.

Favourites, playlists and subscriptions (requires a YouTube account)

Favourites

The 'My Favourites' window shows a list of your favourite videos, and you can add and remove videos to your favourites from within cuteTube. Videos can be added to your favourites in three ways:

• Using the long-press context menu when viewing a list of videos.

• Using the 'Multi-select' feature when viewing a list of videos.

• Clicking the 'Add to favourites' menu option from within the 'Video Info' window.

Videos can be removed from your favourites via the long-press context menu when in the 'My Favourites' window.

Playlists

The 'My Playlists' window shows a list of your playlists, and you can create, edit and delete YouTube playlists from within cuteTube.

Creating a new playlist

You can create a new playlist by clicking the 'New playlist' menu option from within the 'My Playlists' window. A 'New Playlist' dialog will be raised, where you can enter the details of your new playlist.

Editing and deleting an existing playlist

You can edit or delete an existing playlist via a long-press on any of the playlists in the 'My Playlists' window. Choosing the 'Edit playlist' will raise a dialog, where you can edit the details of your playlist.

Adding videos to a playlist

Videos can be added to any of your playlists using the same methods as for adding videos to your favourites. A dialog will be raised displaying a list of your existing playlists, along with an option to create a new one.

Playing a playlist

You can play a playlist by clicking the 'Play this playlist' menu option when viewing the list of videos in the playlist. This option takes you to the 'Video Playback' window.

Subscriptions

The 'My Subscriptions' window displays a list of your existing YouTube subscriptions. You can view any of your subscriptions by clicking them, or you can view your latest subscription videos by clicking the 'Latest subscription videos' menu option.

Subscribing to a channel

You can subscribe to a user's channel by clicking the 'Subscribe to user' menu option when viewing a list of the user's videos. This list can be reached by clicking the 'User's videos' menu option in the 'Video Info' window.

Unsubscribing to a channel

You can unsubscribe to a user's channel via a long-press on any of the subscriptions in the 'My Subscriptions' window.

Queuing videos for playback

The playback queue is an on-the-go playlist, to which any videos can be added using the same methods as those for favourites/playlists. You can view your playback queue by clicking the 'Queue' menu option in any of the list views. This will take you to the 'Playback Queue' window, where you can play an individual video or the entire queue. Clicking the 'Play queue' menu option passes the entire queue to the 'Video Playback' window.

The 'Multi-select' feature

This feature provides a convenient way to add a number of video to your playback queue, downloads, playlists and favourites. To use the 'Multi-select' feature:

• Click the 'Multi-select' menu option in any video list view.

• Tick the desired videos in the video list.

• Click the main menu bar at the top of the window and choose the desired option from the menu.

Viewing the details of a video

Clicking a video in a list takes you into the 'Video Info' window, which displays the thumbnail, duration, title, description, rating, view count, and number of comments. The 'Video Info' window also provides access to additional features:

• Video playback: Clicking the 'Play' button takes you to the 'Video Playback' window.

• Video download: Clicking the 'Download' button adds the video to your download queue. The behaviour of your download queue will depend upon your chosen download setting.

• Video sharing: You can share the video by copying the URL to the clipboard, or via Facebook and Twitter once you have provided authentication.

• Rate video: This option raises a dialog where you can choose a rating of 1-5 stars.

• View/add comments: You can view the 25 most recent comments or add a comment of your own. Added comments may not appear immediately, as some users moderate comments.

• Add to favourites/playlist (requires a YouTube account): You can add the video to your favourites and/or a playlist of your choice.

• Add to queue: The playback queue is an on-the-go playlist to which you can add any video.

• Related videos: Clicking this menu option takes you to the 'Related videos' feed for the video.

• User's video: Clicking this menu option takes you to the uploader's channel.

Playing YouTube videos

The video playback window displays the currently playing video, along with on-screen controls when you click on the screen. You can control the player as follows:

Previous	'Left'	Seeks to beginning if current position > 5 seconds, otherwise plays the previous video in the playlist (if available)

Info	'I'	Raises the on-screen display
Seekbar	--	Seeks to the chosen position in the video

You can choose the quality of the playback stream via the playback settings in the 'Settings' dialog. If you have previously downloaded the video, cuteTube will play the existing file (providing the file path is unchanged, and the resolution <= 480x270).

Downloading YouTube videos

Adding a download

You can add a video to your download queue via the same methods used for adding videos to favourites and playlists. Once a video is added, you can view your downloads by clicking the 'Downloads' menu option in any list view.

Managing your downloads

The 'Downloads' window displays your current and completed videos. Their progress is shown, along with the current download speed if applicable. You can filter the downloads view to show 'All', 'Current' or 'Completed'. In addition, you can also:

• Resume any/all downloads: You can resume all paused/cancelled downloads by clicking the 'Resume all downloads' menu option, or resume an individual download via a long-press on the video.

• Pause any/all downloads: This works in the same way as resuming downloads.

• Cancel a download: You can cancel any download in the queue via a long-press on the video.

• Clear downloads: This menu option clears all downloads from your queue (no files are deleted), and is only effective when no downloads are in progress.
  

Clicking on a video takes you to the 'Video Info' window.

Sharing YouTube videos

cuteTube allows you to share any YouTube video via Facebook or Twitter. Before sharing your first video, you must login to the relevant social network account and provide authorisation for cuteTube to access your account. The authorisation takes place using oauth, and is persistent. You only need to authenticate once.

Sharing via Facebook

Sharing via Facebook for the first time requires three steps:

• Login to your Facebook account.

       

• Provide authorisation for cuteTube to access your Facebook account. Click the 'Done' button when the 'Success' message is displayed.

• Share your video.

Sharing via Twitter

Sharing via Twitter for the first time also requires three steps:

• Login to your Twitter account and provide authorisation for cuteTube to access your account.
  

• Enter the pin code to complete the authentication process.

• Share your video.

Configuration

Managing YouTube Accounts

You can add new YouTube accounts, and manage existing ones, by choosing 'Manage accounts' from the menu of the main/home window. The 'Manage Accounts' dialog shows:

• A list of any existing accounts, which can be edited by clicking the 'Edit' button. This will raise the 'Edit Accout' dialog, from which you can change your account details.

• The 'New' button, which raises an 'Add Account' dialog, from which you can add any YouTube account.

• The 'Delete' button. Like the 'Edit button, this is only enabled when an existing account is selected from the list. Clicking the 'Delete' button will raise a dialog asking for confirmation of the delete action.

cuteTube Settings

The 'Settings' dialog is available via the menu of the main/home window and enables configuration of the following:

• YouTube accounts: You can decide which account the cuteTube signs in to by default when loading.

• Video playback: Choose between the mobile video stream or 480x270 mp4 for playback.

• Video download:

• Download location: Choose a location where downloaded videos will be stored.

• Download quality: Choose between mobile, 480x270, 360p, 480p or 720p stream for downloads. If the chosen quality is not available for a particular video, cuteTube will download the next best quality available.      

• Start downloads immediately: Choose whether downloads begin automatically when added to the queue, or stay paused until you start them manually from the 'Downloads' window.  

• Category and location filters: You can filter the 'Most recent' and 'Most viewed' feeds according to your chosen category and location.
  

• Clear recent searches: Clicking this button will clear your list of recent searches. The list stores your 30 most recent searches, and can be accessed from the 'Search' dialog.

• Display orientation: Choose between landscape-only or auto-rotation modes. All of cuteTube's windows and dialogs can be viewed in portrait mode if 'auto-rotation' is chosen.

Any changes (except 'Clear recent searches') will only take effect if the 'Save' button is clicked. You can click outside of the dialog to discard any changes.
